Privacy policy
Last updated: 4 November 2026
This notice explains what personal information I collect through this website and my lessons, what I do with it, and the rights you have over it, under UK data protection law (UK GDPR and the Data Protection Act 2018). It is written in plain English.
1. Who is responsible for your data
The data controller is Jessie’s Chinese Studio, a sole-trader teaching practice based in the United Kingdom. I am an individual, not a company. I am registered with the Information Commissioner’s Office (ICO) as a fee payer, registration reference ZC196182.
- Email: jessieuk719@gmail.com
- Postal address for service: Unit 153682, Courier Point, 13 Freeland Park, Wareham Road, Poole, Dorset, BH16 6FH, UK
2. What I collect, and when
Through this website, personal data may be processed when you use the enquiry form or the optional Ask Jessie AI assistant, or choose to enable analytics:
- Your name and email address
- Your learning goal, your current Mandarin level, and your preferred lesson times
- Anything you choose to write in the optional message box
- Messages you submit to the AI assistant and a temporary random session identifier
- With analytics consent: page views, sessions, engagement and scroll activity, technical browser/device information and approximate location, validated campaign source, medium and name where supplied in campaign links, clicks on a fixed set of lesson, resource and contact buttons, and limited activity signals such as enquiry-step progress, submission attempts, confirmation-screen views, opening Ask Jessie and starter activity progress/completion. These signals do not confirm that an enquiry was received or a lesson was booked. Enquiry fields, message text and AI conversations are not sent to analytics.
Please do not put sensitive personal information, payment details, or confidential information into the AI assistant. Its conversation history is kept only in your current browser tab and is removed when that browser session ends.
If you become a student, I also hold your lesson schedule and lesson records.
3. Why I use your data, and the legal basis
I use your enquiry details to reply to you, to suggest a suitable learning plan, and, if you go on to book, to arrange and deliver your lessons.
- At the enquiry stage, the lawful basis is taking steps at your request before entering into a contract (UK GDPR Article 6(1)(b)): you contact me because you are considering booking lessons, and I need your details to respond.
- If you become a student, the lawful basis is performance of that contract: I need your details to schedule and deliver your lessons and to send you payment requests.
- Lesson and payment records are also kept to meet my legal obligations, such as UK tax record-keeping requirements.
- Where you volunteer extra information in the message box, you do so by consent, which you can withdraw at any time.
Optional Google Analytics helps me understand which pages and learning resources people use. Its lawful basis is your consent (UK GDPR Article 6(1)(a)). Refusing analytics does not prevent you using the website, lessons enquiry form or learning activities.
I do not use your details for marketing, and I do not sell or share them for advertising.
4. Where your data is stored
Website and game lesson-enquiry forms send the details you submit to Google Apps Script for processing. The game feedback form sends your feedback to Formspree. Formspree processes the fields you submit and technical information needed to deliver and protect its service. See Formspree’s privacy policy. If you email me directly, your message is also held in Gmail. Google may process information outside the UK; its applicable terms and transfer arrangements depend on the service. See Google’s privacy policy.
With your permission, Google Tag Manager loads Google Analytics 4. Google receives analytics information and may process it outside the UK, including in the United States. Google’s processing and international-transfer arrangements are described in its data processing terms and privacy policy. Analytics is not loaded on the privacy, terms or cookie policy pages.
When you use the Ask Jessie AI assistant, your messages are sent securely to Cloudflare to retrieve relevant service information and generate a response. The website does not create a server-side conversation record, and application logs are configured not to contain message text. Cloudflare processes the request as a service provider and may process technical security information needed to deliver and protect the service. Read Cloudflare’s privacy policy.
5. Booking and payment happen elsewhere
Scheduling and payment do not happen on this website.
- Trial lesson booking is handled by Cal.com: when you book your trial, Cal.com processes the details you enter under its own privacy notice: cal.com/privacy.
- Payment: the £10 trial fee, and payment for lessons agreed at the trial, is taken through PayPal (Goods & Services). When you pay, PayPal processes your payment details under its own privacy statement: paypal.com/uk/legalhub/paypal/privacy-full.
- Telegram contact: if you choose the assistant’s Telegram link, Telegram processes the information you send under its own privacy policy.
I do not see or store your card or bank details at any point.
6. How long I keep your data
- Analytics: Google Analytics user-level and event-level data retention is set to two months, without resetting on new activity. This does not mean standard aggregated reports are deleted after two months. Your consent choice expires after six calendar months without being extended by visits. Analytics cookies have a configured lifetime of 182.5 days; the session-state cookie may refresh with activity. When the site next checks an expired choice, including on your next visit, it disables analytics and clears its analytics cookies. See the cookie policy.
- AI assistant conversations: the website does not retain a server-side conversation history. A maximum of the most recent messages is stored temporarily in your browser session and disappears when that session ends.
- Enquiries that do not lead to lessons: I keep your details for 12 months after my last contact with you, so I can respond if you come back to me, then delete them.
- If you become a student: I keep your contact details and lesson records while I teach you. After our last lesson, I keep lesson and payment records for 6 years, because UK tax law requires me to retain business records for that period. Anything not needed for those records is deleted within 12 months.
You can ask me to delete your details at any time (see below). Where the law requires me to keep certain records, such as payment records for tax, I will delete everything else and keep only what the law requires, for only as long as it requires.
7. Your rights
Under UK GDPR you have the right to:
- Ask for a copy of the personal data I hold about you (access)
- Ask me to correct inaccurate data (rectification)
- Ask me to delete your data (erasure)
- Ask me to limit how I use your data (restriction)
- Object to my use of your data (objection)
- Receive your data in a portable format (portability)
- Withdraw consent at any time, where consent is the basis I rely on
To exercise any of these rights, email me at jessieuk719@gmail.com. I will respond within one month.
8. Complaints
If you are unhappy with how I handle your data, please contact me first at jessieuk719@gmail.com so I can try to put it right. You also have the right to complain to the UK’s data protection regulator, the Information Commissioner’s Office (ICO), at ico.org.uk.
9. Cookies
Analytics cookies are optional and are used only after you accept analytics. Use Cookie settings in the footer to change your choice at any time. Withdrawing consent stops future analytics and removes this site’s analytics cookies immediately. The page reloads to unload Google code, or asks you to refresh when ready if you have unsent input or are using the game or starter activity. This does not erase information already sent to Google or affect the lawfulness of earlier processing. For access or deletion requests, email jessieuk719@gmail.com; I may need further information to locate data associated with a browser identifier. See the cookie policy for storage details. Linked services use their own cookies under their own policies when you visit them.
10. Changes to this notice
If how I handle your data changes, I will update this page and change the “last updated” date at the top.
