Cookie policy
Last updated: 4 November 2026
This page explains cookies and browser storage used by Jessie’s Chinese Studio. Read the privacy policy for controller details, data uses and your rights.
Your choice
Google Tag Manager and Google Analytics 4 load only after you accept optional analytics. Choose Necessary only to decline, or use Customise. You can change your choice using Cookie settings in every page’s footer. Analytics is not loaded on legal policy pages.
Storage used by this site
- jc_consent (local storage): remembers your analytics choice, policy version and the time of your choice for six calendar months, without extending this period on visits. It is necessary to respect your settings and is not an analytics identifier. If browser storage is unavailable, optional analytics stays off.
- _ga and _ga_9B7F2BY006 (first-party cookies): optional Google Analytics identifiers used to distinguish browsers and maintain session state. Their configured lifetime is 15,768,000 seconds (182.5 days, about six months). The _ga cookie keeps its original expiry; the _ga_9B7F2BY006 session-state cookie may refresh its expiry with activity, for up to another 182.5 days. They are created only with analytics consent. Your consent choice still expires six calendar months after you make it, without being extended by visits. When the site next checks an expired choice, including on your next visit, it disables analytics and clears its analytics cookies.
- Game progress and sound preferences (local storage): Survive China remembers saved progress, learning memory and audio preferences. The starter activity remembers its sound preference. These functional values remain until reset in the activity or cleared through your browser; changing analytics consent does not delete game saves.
- Ask Jessie (session storage): temporary conversation and session information is kept for the browser session. It is separate from analytics and is not sent to Google Analytics.
- Game offline cache: the game stores approved site assets so it can reopen offline. The service worker does not cache Google Analytics or Tag Manager requests.
What optional analytics measures
Analytics measures page views, sessions, engagement, scroll activity, a fixed set of clicks on lesson, resource and contact buttons, and limited enquiry-step, submission-attempt, confirmation-screen, Ask Jessie opening and starter progress/completion signals, together with technical browser/device information, approximate location and validated campaign source, medium and name where supplied in campaign links. The page URL sent to analytics excludes the raw query string and fragment. These signals do not confirm enquiry receipt, booking or payment. It does not receive form fields, chat messages or other text you type. This site does not use advertising tags or Google Signals.
Google Analytics user-level and event-level retention is configured to two months, without resetting on new activity. Standard aggregated reports are not governed by that two-month limit. Cookie lifetime and analytics data retention are different settings.
Changing or withdrawing consent
Open Cookie settings, turn analytics off and save. This immediately stops future analytics and removes this site’s analytics cookies. The page reloads to unload Google code, or asks you to refresh when ready if you have unsent input or are using the game or starter activity. Clearing browser storage also removes your saved choice and you will be asked again. Withdrawal does not delete data already sent to Google.

Other services
Website and game lesson-enquiry forms send submitted details to Google Apps Script. Game feedback is sent to Formspree. Google Fonts and the optional Ask Jessie service also make network requests for their features; these are separate from optional analytics. Services you visit through links, including booking, payment and social sites, apply their own storage and privacy policies. See Google’s privacy policy and our privacy policy.
